In a significant move in the ongoing trademark dispute between Supermac’s and fast food giant McDonald’s, Supermac’s has asked the EU regulator to cancel the use of the Big Mac trademark registered by McDonald’s under certain classes. The request has been formally submitted to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) by Supermac’s which has asked that it take effect immediately on the basis that McDonald’s is engaged in trademark bullying.

The Minister of State for the Office of Public Works and Flood Relief, Seán Canney, has announced that the Government has agreed the administrative arrangements for a once-off targeted Voluntary Homeowner Relocation Scheme.
The Minister said: “This is a humanitarian aid scheme targeted at those homeowners whose main or family home flooded between December 4 2015 and January 13 2016 to an extent that left it uninhabitable and whose home is at significant risk of damage from flooding again, and cannot be protected through any future planned or possible flood protection or mitigation measures. Homes in turlough areas that flooded after these dates will also be considered under the scheme.”

Independent city councillor, and former Mayor, Declan McDonnell is in the process of contacting private companies to see if services can be provided for the Ballybane, Mervue, Renmore, Castlepark, and Doughiska areas. This follows representations from elderly constituents asking for this “opportunity be investigated”.
