A feast of theatre and dance shows from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, UK and Ireland, made especially for babies and children, will take place in Galway from February 1-4. Wide Eyes, a one-off festival for the under six age group, features 15 new shows from Irish and international artists across 15 countries.

Pearce Flannery will officially launch Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh 2018 as well as announce all of the Gradam sponsors for the year ahead at a press event in the Eyre Square Centre on Monday the 29th of January 2018 @ 12 noon. The Eyre Square Centre was the overall winner of Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh 2017.

At the press event, Gaillimh le Gaeilge will also launch their redesigned website (www.gleg.ie) developed by Armour, to coincide with Gradam 2018. The long-awaited Ballinfoile Castlegar Neighbourhood Centre opened its doors this week, following one of the longest running community campaigns in the country.

Local residents have been campaigning for a community centre in the area since 1987. The centre was officially opened in May 2016; however it has effectively remained closed until now due to concerns over how the facility would be staffed and administered.

Rabbitte warns of ‘severe fodder crisis’ unless funding is put in place

The failure of Agriculture Minister Michael Creed to establish a fodder support scheme for farmers is “worrying and disappointing”, according to Fianna Fáil Galway East TD Anne Rabbitte.

The Fodder Action Group met this week but Minister Michael Creed refused to establish a fund for farmers affected by the fodder crisis. The failrure has been criticised by Dep Rabbitte, who said she was “struggling to understand” the Minister’s reluctance “when farmers in Galway and along the west coast are at pains to emphasise the serious impact the fodder crisis is having”.

Boost for Galway Hospice through Dormant Accounts Funding

Minister for Community Development, Natural Resources and Digital Development and Fine Gael TD for Galway and Mayo South, Seán Kyne last evening (Wednesday) confirmed an allocation of almost €100,000 for Galway Hospice from the Dormant Accounts Fund.

The funding is being provided by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection which will be reimbursed from the Dormant Accounts Fund.
