Swimmers call for accessibility action at Galway's beaches

Galway Bay is widely celebrated as one of the region’s greatest natural resources, a place that belongs to everyone yet remains inaccessible to many. For Moycullen resident Kay Diviney, a member of the Gentle Swimmers group, the bay represents both liberation and limitation. Kay has Multiple Sclerosis and is a wheelchair user, yet each week she makes the journey to the water across from the Galway Bay Hotel, supported by her husband Cathal and fellow swimmers. What awaits her is a powerful form of therapy, but one that is not reliably within her reach.

In addition she received a further two months for causing a disturbance at UHG the following day.

There should have been celebration in Ireland this week. After a weekend of sporting triumphs, the country was ready—almost hungry—for a lift from the relentless gloom of recent times. Joy was supposed to ripple through communities, offering a brief but welcome relief. Instead, a hollow stillness has settled around kitchen tables and parish halls, a darkness that no good news can penetrate. A pain in our gut. Five young lives—bright, beautiful, beginning—were taken in an instant on the Ardee Road at Gibstown in Dundalk. And now a nation finds itself grieving alongside the families who must somehow live in the aftermath.
