An Portach, from Hawkeye Films, directed and produced by Donal Haughey, will be screened on TG4 this Sunday at 9.30pm as part of the station’s Cogar series.

Heart charity Croi has today launched its 2009 Christmas card pack selection. Synonymous with Christmas in Galway the Croi Christmas card selection is once again unique and exciting. This year’s pack includes a selection of stunning photos of Galway and west of Ireland Christmas scenes. The pack features streetscapes of Quay Street, Courthouse Square, internal photographs of Galway Cathedral, the crib at the Augustinian Church, as well as a Christmas depiction of Tuam Cathedral. The selection also includes images of Croagh Patrick and other snowscapes.

Beggar gets suspended sentence for obstruction and abuse of garda

A beggar who wilfully obstructed an elderly wheel-chair bound man and then abused a garda, calling him a “piece of s**t”, received a five month suspended sentence at the Galway District Court this week.

During questioning by Inspector Michael Coppinger, the court heard how Nicolae Tudor denied the practise of intimidating members of the public into giving him money by sticking out his legs and blocking paths. The 24-year-old man with an address at Loughgeorge, Claregalway, also denied refusing to move for an elderly man and to using foul language.
