Popular astronomy festival returns to Galway next week

AstroFest, Galway Astronomy Club’s annual festival of all things astronomy, will return next week after a three year hiatus.

The festival will take place in the Menlo Park Hotel on Saturday January 28, and promises a packed programme of talks, along with trade displays, photographic displays, and a lunchtime workshop with Tom O’Donoghue, one of Ireland’s best known astrophotographers.

Galway is the second cleanest city in the country after Waterford, while Ballybane has seen a marked improvement compared to previous surveys, according to the latest Irish Business Against Litter report, published this week.

The IBAL survey also found that Ballinasloe fared best of the three Galway sites inspected. The final litter survey of 2022 found both Ballinasloe and Galway city centre again deemed clean to European norms, in 13th and 19th place respectively in the ranking of 40 towns and cities nationwide.

Bercause of that he has this week agai raised the issue of the lack of a School Warden on the Clybaun Road with officials at the Transport Directorate at Galway City Council and he has now have written to the Director of Services, Transport Directorate requesting the need to immediately recruit a School Warden for the Clybaun Road.
