Noel Devery was born in Ballybane, having spent all his time since leaving school in the hairdressing business he saw a niche in the market for a beauty salon, as he catered so much for weddings, debs, etc. This year he took on two of the biggest ventures of his life, he married Lisa O’Reilly in October and on Valentine’s Day this year together they ventured into the beauty world and opened a salon in Ballybane Shopping Centre, with free parking.
Lisa manages and runs their new business venture along with their friendly team. A Department of Family and Social Welfare cheque, worth €2,043, was posted to the wrong address where it stayed for several weeks until a man, faced with mounting financial problems, took the chance of lodging the cheque into his own bank account and withdrawing the money, the Galway District Court heard this week.
Alexsandrs Kalpaks (40) with an address at 96 Altan, Western Distributor Road, appeared before Judge Mary Fahy on Monday and pleaded guilty to fraudulently signing on the rear of the cheque the name of the true recipient with the intention that it be used to induce another person to accept it as genuine on November 23, 2009.

The Galway Rowing Club, which for more than a century has nurtured the potential of numerous young and gifted rowers, winning 28 Irish titles, is calling on all ex-members and other members of the public to give their support by taking part in its bumper Easter Sunday raffle next month.
The upcoming raffle is extremely important to the future of the club as it has become increasingly difficult to keep up with maintenance costs and to continue to provide the expert training received by the more than 65 active competitive rowers.

Just when we thought it was going to be all plain sailing once again in Galway East the tides turned, a recount was ordered, votes vanished and disprepancies were found, but we got there in the end filling all four seats and closing the doors of the community centre in New Inn before midnight on Sunday.
