Lords seek to declare execution of Mammatrasna murder accused a miscarriage of justice

Two members of the British House of Lords are seeking to have the British authorities declare that the hanging of a County Galwayman 130 years ago a miscarriage of justice.

David Alton, Baron Alton of Liverpool, and Eric Lubbock, the fourth Baron Avebury are seeking a review of the case of Myles Joyce, alleged to have been involved in the Maamtrasna murders, and for the authorities to declare him the victim of a miscarriage of justice and to concede he was falsely convicted and executed.

Agriculture move will save €1 million says Connaughton

Half of the Department of Agriculture staff currently working in Galway city are moving to new premises in Athenry, a move which a local TD says will save €1 million in rent.

The new facility will be located on the Mellow’s Campus in Athenry. Fine Gael Galway East TD Paul Connaughton said the move makes “economic sense” as the staff can be accommodated “at much less cost to the exchequer” in the new premises.
