A new venue catering to Galway’s gay community will open its doors in Shop Street tomorrow (Friday).

Dignity Bar was first established in Waterford in July 2008. Dignity provides a safe place in stylish surroundings where people can let their hair down and party into the small hours.

This is the view of Independent councillor Catherine Connolly, who has submitted a formal observation to An Bord Pleanála against the proposed development at Millar’s Lane, Rahoon.

Spanish and Irish poetry on Inishbofin

The Spanish poet Miguel Hernández will be celebrated at a reading on Inishbofin as part of the island’s arts festival, which takes place this weekend.

John Liddy, an Irish poet who has lived in Madrid for many years, will read in the Inishbofin Library this Saturday at 5pm. As well as his own poems, Liddy will also read poems by Miguel Hernández, one of the most significant Spanish poets of the 20th century.

Take part in memorial walk and help suicide bereaved

A local charity which supports people bereaved by suicide is calling on families, friends and work colleagues to take to the streets of Galway for the 2010 Console Memorial Walk.

Entitled “Walking in Memory of Our Loved Ones” it takes place on Sunday May 16 at 2.30pm from the Claddagh Hall. The route leads to Blackrock and back to the Claddagh Hall where walkers can enjoy refreshments.
