The referral means the proposed road project faces further delays.

Today more than 6,500 students in schools across Galway will take their seats for the second day of the Leaving and Junior Certificate examinations.
Nationally some 116,334 candidates at a total of 4,700 exam centres are this year expected to sit the Leaving Cert, Leaving Cert Applied, and Junior Cert examinations which began yesterday. Last year the total number of exam candidates nationally was 115,165.

A Menlo boating enthusaist who has used the waterways for seventy years has said that the problem with Claregalway flooding emanates in the city’s canals.
Experienced boating enthusiast Sean Creaven has a vast knowledge of the outlets and inlets surrounding Galway city and its environs, having used the waterways since 1936 and he believes that the majority of the problems facing Galwegians originate in the city.

In an age of remarkable men and women, Ben Jonson (1572-1637) stood out. Not only was he friend and rival of Shakespeare, he was also a brilliant poet and playwright. He was also wayward, obstinate, bad-tempered, and only survived the gallows after killing a man in a duel by proving he could read and write. Thereafter he bore on his right thumb a branded 'T', for Tyburn, so that if caught next time, he would hang.
Almost alone among Shakespeare's contemporaries – Marlowe is the other exception – Jonson's plays - The Alchemist, Volpone, Bartholomew Fair, The New Inn, and the Poetaster – are still staged. And he is still studied in university English courses. Many of the plays are set recognisably in the world of late Elizabethan England, with lots of local colour and knowing references that would have been instantly caught by those who first watched them, though are sometimes baffling to us.
