More than 200 new jobs are to be created by top US online gaming company ZeniMax which announced yesterday that Galway has been selected as the location for its European customer support centre.
ZeniMax Online Studios, headquartered in Hunt Valley, Maryland, made the announcement along with the Minister for Enterprise, Jobs, and Innovation, Richard Bruton. The customer service centre, which will provide customer support for players of the company’s online multiplayer role playing games, is expected to result in the creation of hundreds of jobs over the next several years.

Gardaí were yesterday awaiting confirmation that the buildings destroyed in a fire at Riverside Commercial Estate on Saturday night are safe enough to allow a technical examination to get under way. Four premises were gutted in the blaze, which was the biggest fire in Galway since the Farah factory fire of 1986.

Companies and tourism in the west will be at a competitive disadvantage if the region’s air connections and services are not further developed and supported, according to Western Development Commission (WDC) which recently published its latest policy briefing on ‘Air Access and the Western Region’.
“Direct international air access to and from the Western Region’s ‘regional’ airports needs to be maximised to drive enterprise and tourism, as well as making the most of this infrastructure,” says policy analyst at the WDC, Deirdre Frost.
