Cork and Dublin’s Occupy camps may have gone, but Occupy Galway is still on site in Eyre Square and has no plans to move despite growing opposition from many city councillors.
At Monday’s city council meeting, city manager Joe O‘Neill indicated that the council will pursue legal avenues to have the camp removed. “The camp is in breach of the public order act 1994, and we’re legally responsible for it,” he said.

A 34-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to operating a brothel in the city centre and has been remanded on continuing bail for sentencing.
Romanian national Monica Ciuciu with a confirmed address at 33 Cois Clair, Claregalway, appeared at Galway District Court on Monday where she entered the plea of guilty to the charge of acting or assisting in the management of a brothel on February 11 this year, contrary to Section 11 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 1993, at apartment 3, 15 Mary Street.

NUI Galway students are to take part in a firewalk tonight at the Westwood Hotel in Dangan as part of the Earth, Wind and Fire fundraising challenge.
The smoking hot event, which is taking place in the rear carpark of the hotel, will begin at 9pm with a number of brave students talking a walk on the wild side by stepping barefoot across 20 feet of hot coals, at a temperature of 1,200 degrees fahrenheit, without getting burnt.
