Anam Cara is hosting its next monthly parent evening on Wednesday November 1 from 7.30pm to 9pm in the Clayton Hotel, Old Monivea Road, Ballybrit, Galway.
One bereaved mother who attended a recent Anam Cara event said: “Both my husband and I felt it helped us in our grief to be in a place where we felt safe and comfortable to express the way we feel and think. I am good at talking but my husband is deep and I find for him the more interaction we have with other parents like ourselves then he gets the nerve to say something. It might be small but it is a start.”

The Indian Cultural and Sports Community Galway will celebrate Diwali or Festival of Lights on Saturday October 28 from 5.30pm to 10pm in Leisureland, Salthill. The guest of honour is the Minister for Community Development, Natural Resources and Digital Development, and Fine Gael Galway West TD, Sean Kyne, and all Galway is welcome to attend the event and celebrate with the community.

NUI Galway’s Paediatric Society and the Association of Medical Students Ireland (AMSI) are co-running a two-day event titled ‘Healthy Heroes’ to promote child and adolescent health. They have invited a total of 400 local primary school and transition year students to attend interactive workshops surrounding healthy habits, on November 8-9th at NUIG’s main campus.
The aim is to promote the health and well-being of primary and secondary school students in the hopes that they will learn essential knowledge and skills that will help them to consider their health when making daily choices.

Next May or June the people of Ireland will be asked to vote on the contentious topic of abortion in the first of seven different referenda proposed over the next two years. This without a doubt will be the most important one and its result will have far reaching repercussions for Ireland into the future. Essentially its result will say a lot about this country and what we value. It is basically a referendum on human rights.
