Stars come together for charity single for Lily Mae

Elton John’s ‘Tiny Dancer’ has been recorded by a host of leading Irish singers as a charity single to raise funds for a seriously ill Galway girl.
The single, which will be launched in the Meyrick Hotel, Eyre Square, on Saturday November 17 at 9pm, is for Lily Mae Morrison, who is fighting neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer. The four-year-old is the daughter of Judith Sibley and Leighton Morrison of Galway dance companies Chrysalis and Youth Ballet West.

Seventy Irish women entrepreneurs, including entrepreneurs from Galway, who run businesses with a combined turnover in excess of €75 million came together last week to attend the annual ‘Going for Growth’ National Forum in County Kildare.
Among them, the 70 women currently employ almost 700 people and at present, almost half are exporters. Over the next five years, they aim to increase this to 1,200 employees, with a combined turnover of €250 million.

Charges against two members of the former Occupy Galway who had been accused of vandalising Galway City Council property with anti-austerity slogans written in chalk were withdrawn by the State this week. However, there was surprise when applications were made by both men looking for taxpayers to pay.
Judge Mary Fahy refused the legal aid applications for 27-year-old Christopher Duignan of 22 St Cormac’s Park, Kilcormac, Offaly, and 20-year-old Mark McKenna of 158 Laurel Park, Newcastle.

The Minister of Justice has been slammed for backing the decision of the Reception and Integration Agency (RIA) to close a Galway asylum accommodation centre with Sinn Fein senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh accusing him of being “absolutely ignorant to the fears and concerns of residents”.
Despite widespread condemnation and the tireless efforts of campaigners and local representatives Minister Alan Shatter hammered the final nail in the coffin yesterday by announcing the RIA’s decision should stand and that the transfers of more than 270 asylum seekers, many families with school going children, will begin with immediate effect.
