City council approves Lough Atalia road closure

The Galway City Council has voted to close a section of Lough Atalia road for eight weeks before the Christmas period, which is expected to cause major traffic disruptions in the city centre in the run up to one of the busiest periods of the year.

The closure, which will take place from September to mid November, will facilitate the lowering of the road beneath the Lough Atalia railway bridge to allow heavy goods vehicles and the emergency services to pass underneath without having to use the middle of the road. Overall, the works will cost approximately €750,000.

Next Sunday’s episode of the Dragon’s Den will see Galway entrepreneur Tara Dalrymple bravely pitch her website Mission Possible, an online peer to peer outsourcing website for social and corporate tasks.

The episode which airs on RTÉ One at 9.30pm will see Ms Dalrymple look for €60,000 in exchange for 10 per cent of her business, Mission Possible. Dragon BarryO’Sullivan questions how Ms Dalrymple’s business is different from Google Helps Out and Task Rabbit, two huge tech companies offering similar services that are successful on a global scale, and expresses concern that Mission Possible will not work globally.

On their bikes for premature babies — fundraising tour to visit Galway tomorrow

A group of 30 bikers will arrive in Galway tomorrow (Friday) as part of a nationwide tour delivering life-saving equipment to neonatal intensive care units around the country.

The annual Ride Out For Prems sees the Irish Premature Babies group, some of whom are parents of premature babies, visiting 11 hospitals around Ireland this week including University Hospital Galway.
