In an effort to draw attention to issues around men’s health, the Men’s Health Forum charity in Ireland has launched a 32 page man manual, entitled Challenges and Choices, in aid of Men’s Health Week, which runs from Monday June 9 to Sunday June 15.
The core aims of Men’s Health Week are to heighten awareness of preventable health problems for all males of all ages, to support men to engage in healthier lifestyle activities, and to encourage the early detection of health difficulties in men. The theme for 2014 is ‘‘Challenges, Choices, and Celebrations’’.

Students of the former international boarding school for girls, which closed its doors in 2010 after nearly 100 years, will gather at Kylemore on Saturday for a Mass in the new Monastic Church which is located in the former school gymnasium, lunch, art exhibition, and Vespers with the Benedictine community. Among Sunday’s activities is a hike to the Sacred Heart Statue located on the mountain behind the Abbey.

An exhibition of projects by architectural technology students in GMIT will open to the public next Tuesday June 3, featuring the work of over 40 students. This exhibition features a selection of architectural drawings, sketches, and images by students on the four year degree programme.
Projects range from a contemporary rural house, a timber framed kindergarten project, and a multi-storey publishing house on the docks in Galway city.

Traffic calming measures must be installed at schools in Clifden and Letterfrack before there is a fatality, according to the North Connemara Action Group.
The group is calling on Galway County Council and the National Roads Authority to install the traffic calming measures at Scoil Mhuire national school in Clifden, located on the N59 junction to the Clifden District Hospital. According to group chairman, Liam Bartley Allen, traffic calming is also needed at Letterfrack National School which is located at a “deadly corner”.
