Fáilte Ireland to invest €1.8 million for Connemara discovery points

Fáilte Ireland is to provide €1.8 million for the development of 19 orientation and discovery points in Connemara as part of the Wild Atlantic Way. However, although many councillors welcomed the investment, others accused the tourism group of neglecting other areas of the county.

Breakthrough Cancer Research and the volunteers who ran the Malin to Mizen Horse and Carriage Drive have thanked the people of Galway for their support during the 441 mile journey.
National champion horse carriage drivers Dan Joe Spillane, from Macroom, Co Cork, John McMahon, from Kilbeheny, Co Limerick, and Pat Fleming, from Kilkenny, recently drove a horse and carriage the length of Ireland for Breakthrough Cancer Research. Aiming to raise €80,000 for cancer research, they travelled 441 miles, covering approximately 50 miles each day with six horses. The horses included four siblings Sylvie, Valerie, Chas, and Dave, with Mischief and Sonny who are all used to road work and are out and about each Sunday.

The deadline for community submissions for the operation of the Knocknacarra Community Centre has been extended to Friday September 5 at 4pm.
The decision was made at Monday’s meeting of the Galway City Council and has been welcomed by councillor Catherine Connolly. The independent councillor also tabled a motion, which was unanimously agreed, that city management would work with the community and the local councillors to ensure that a private for profit entity does not take over the community centre.
