PROBABLE European Parliament candidate for this region Mairead McGuinness MEP has called on the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton to look at the experience in the UK of tackling unfair practices in the food supply chain and take similar action in Ireland.

Addressing a seminar in the European Parliament, the MEP said that actions by individual member states in the EU to tackle problems in the food supply chain, which deny farmers a fair return for their effort and produce, need to be enhanced by action at the EU level.

Turloughmore native Maeve O`Brien has been selected by Sinn Féin as their candidate to represent the Tuam LEA. The nomination was recently approved by Sinn Féin's Elections Dept. with the blessing of the membership in the Tuam area.

Ms O'Brien is now living in Turloughmore and working in Galway City as a coordinator for a healthcare recruitment company and her career to date has been in human resources. A graduate of Dublin City University (B.A honours in Applied Languages) and more recently NUIG, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Law (Honours) in 2013, her qualifications brought her to the European Parliament where she commenced a junior political research position in the office of former MEP Michael Tappin.

NUI Galway academic first Irish researcher to receive European literature grant
