Young people with Type 1 diabetes sought for youth panel

Young people with Type 1 diabetes are being sought to take part in a youth panel aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of 18 to 25-year-olds living with this autoimmune disease.
The panel, which will allow young adults with the condition to have a voice, will work with a research team as part of this innovative new project, the first of its type in the country.

The Learning Institute, Galway, has been successful in securing funding from the Irish Computer Society, and as a result the institute is now offering a range of computer courses for beginners for just €20.
Participants will be taught how to make use of the internet, send email, use internet telephone services like Skype, and do shopping and banking online during four two-hour classes through the Get Ireland Online programme. Everybody will benefit from this training, but it is especially suitable for unemployed people, disadvantaged groups, and anyone lacking in basic IT skills.

Political pressure must be put on the HSE West to review its decision that all new mental health patients from Ballinasloe must now attend the psychiatric unit at University Hospital Galway, a former vice chairperson of the HSE West’s regional health forum insists.
City councillor Catherine Connolly claims the health authority is intent on admitting patients to a unit that is “cracking at the seams” while a new 22-bed facility in Ballinasloe has been closed down. She claims this “defies logic”.
