The local property tax has been branded a fiasco by Conamara electoral area candidate, Noel Thomas. He says the promised expenditure on local services from money raised by the tax has still not manifested itself.
“I would like to ask the Government what they have done with the money? Where is it? Because it hasn't been reinvested into the roads of Conamara like they promised,” he said.

The OU offers a route into higher education and states that traditional entry qualifications are not a requirement for the majority of its courses.

Fine Gael looks set to continue its current dominance of Galway County Council, but Fianna Fáil and Independents are set to have a solid election and may even narrow the gap with the governing party.
The county remains a wasteland for the left with Labour unlikely to take a seat, and Sinn Féin only having the prospect of realistically taking one in Ballinasloe, with a small chance of a second in Connemara, although its rival party, Republican Sinn Féin, looks set to retain the seat it won in 2009.

More than €37.5 million will be invested in water and wastewater infrastructure throughout the county as part of the Irish Water Proposed Capital Investment Plan 2014-2016.
The Irish Water investment plan, the details of which were announced earlier this week, will see a total of €1.7 billion being pumped into some 380 projects throughout the country. In Galway, a total of €6,194,034 will be invested in eight water supply schemes across the county with construction expected to continue on the Costello Regional Water Supply Network in south Connemara, and to commence for the Galway City Water Supply Scheme at Terryland and for the Loughrea Regional Water Supply Scheme. The planning procress will be progressed for a number of other water supply schemes at locations such as Clifden and Ballinasloe.

As the primary source of local government funding, the business community’s priorities must become the drivers to ensure that Galway remains a pro-business environment where enterprise flourishes, that is according to president of Galway Chamber Frank Greene.
Mr Greene made the comments when speaking at the recent Galway Chamber summer reception at the Galway Business School in Salthill, an event which was attended by more than 130 people including the Mayor of Galway and An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny. Mr Greene said that councillors, when elected, are integral to most of the significant decisions made affecting business life in the city and county and that there is a need for everyone in Galway to collaborate closely to unlock the region’s economic potential.
