The Galway ethos deserves its place at the top table

For a county and city which has provided leaders in many spheres throughout its long and varied history, it is surprising that it is only next week that a Galway person will take his/her place in one of the key political roles in the country.
Never before have we had a Taoiseach or a President, unlike our neighbours in my own home county who have had several (including some with very tenuous connections).

Receivers have been appointed to a further 18 properties in Galway now under the auspices of NAMA.
Nationally, a further 48 properties have recently had receivers appointed; the majority of these are in Galway and Cork, while the remainder are located in Clare, Wicklow, and Sligo as well as a few in Dublin and England.

Galway has emerged as a frontrunner in terms of its suitability for the introduction of a public bike scheme, similar to that already in action in Dublin, and which could see the setting up of 23 docking stations for 250 public bikes across the city at a estimated cost of €1.55 million.
