Scrappage generates €86 million for Government

More than €86 million has been generated by the Government Car Scrappage Scheme which ends in a month.
Figures released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show that as at the end of May, 9,360 reclaims have been made under the scheme so far this year.

Electric and hybrid car travel between Ireland, Britain and France has come closer to being an everyday occurrence thanks to an initiative by Irish Ferries and ESB ecars, which has seen battery charging points being installed on two of its vessels.
To date, charging points have been fitted on the Dublin-Holyhead cruise ferry Ulysses and on the Rosslare-Cherbourg/Roscoff cruise ferry Oscar Wilde.

A new van purchase finance scheme, which opens up a line of funding that would assist small businesses planning to upgrade their transport fleet, has been introduced by Mercedes-Benz in Ireland.
Designed to unblock the lending logjam that has prevented many owners from acquiring or replacing their van fleet, the scheme provides finance over periods from three to five years upon payment of a “modest” deposit.
