Funeral today of woman who died in dog attack

The funeral will take place today in Moycullen of Theresa McDonagh, who died after being attacked by two dogs in the area last weekend.

In an incident that shocked everyone, the popular local woman was set upon by the two bullmastiff dogs when she called to her son’s home at Knockrasser, Moycullen.

Mrs McDonagh suffered catastrophic injuries in the attack and was pronounced dead at the scene. A neighbour shot the raging dogs to enable the emergency services to attend the scene.

Gardaí are investigating the tragedy and an inquest is expected to be carried out.

Mrs McDonagh is survived by her husband Eddie and her children Martin, Eamon, Gerry, Rosaleen, Christy and Brendan.

Her funeral arrived last night at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Moycullen and her funeral mass will take place today at noon. Mrs McDonagh will be buried afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Bullmastiffs are listed in the 1998 Control of Dogs Act, which means they must be securely muzzled in public places but there are no restrictions in relation to their movements on private property.
