Public meeting opposing Kenny's visit to Trump

AAA's Ruth Coppinger to be main speaker at event taking place this evening

After thousands demonstrated outside Westminster last night against any invitation for controversial US president Donald Trump to visit Britain, Galway will be asking this evening if embattled Taoiseach Enda Kenny should visit the White House on St Patrick's Day.

An Taoiseach is due to meet Trump for the annual presentation of the bowl of shamrock to the US president, however Trump's comments on women, Muslims, the disabled, immigrants, and ethnic minorities, as well as the travel ban order have caused outrage around the world, leading many to call for a boycott of the visit.

The Anti-Austerity Alliance's Ruth Coppinger will address a public meeting this evening at 8pm in the Harbour Hotel, New Dock Road. The meeting, entitled No Greenwash For Sexist Racist Trump!, will focus on the question of whether An Taoiseach Kenny, or any other Irish politician, should visit Donald Trump at the White House on March 17.

The meeting will also hear from US socialist Samantha Rodriguez on the groundswell of opposition which has arisen across the US against the Trump administration, as well as ROSA (Reproductive rights, against Oppression, Sexism & Austerity ) spokesperson Laura Fitzgerald on how women can play a leading role in activism.

The meeting is being organised by the Galway branch of the Socialist Party. All are welcome.
