Kieran Goss’s Galway return is of special significance

Singer/songwriter Kieran Goss’s concert at The Ardilaun tonight (Thursday ) is of special significance to the Sligo man.

The musician and his wife and backing singer, Ann, stayed at the Taylor’s Hill hotel while she was having treatment for breast cancer at University Hospital Galway last year.

She found a lump in her breast while Kieran was writing his latest album in in Nashville - he spends part of the year there recording and writing. They rushed back home for her treatment, which included a mastectomy and subsequent reconstruction surgery.

They later finished the album and recorded it in Texas. Ann’s treatment was successful and she remains cancer-free. She is taking part in a short tour of Ireland this month with her husband before heading to Germany in March and returning to Ireland for further nationwide gigs in May.

Sadly, Kieran’s mother and young sister-in-law both died from cancer within a year of Ann’s diagnosis.

Perhaps as a result of all this, his latest album I’ll Be Seeing You is Kieran’s most direct work yet. It has been described as possessing a reflective maturity mirroring his personal life which has been beset by turmoil in recent years.

“The way I write has always been from the heart,” he says. “I’m less afraid to be open and display vulnerability in my writing as I get older, to dig deep into how we process life, how we play the cards we’re dealt.”

Tickets for tonight’s show which begins at 8pm (doors open at 7pm ) are available by telephoning (091 ) 521433 or e-mailing [email protected] or logging onto www.theardilaunhotel.ie
