The Galway People of the Year Award winners 2015 will be honoured at a Gala Banquet and Presentation to be held in the Galway Bay Hotel on Saturday February 6. Compered by Keith Finnegan, the winners were nominated by members of the public for their work in a variety of fields which contributed to the betterment of the lives of people in their communities. The winners were introduced by the chair of the adjudication panel Mary Bennett and awards organiser Ollie Robinson to a large attendance of family and supporters.
Ollie Robinson thanked all those who sent in nominations and paid tribute to all the local print media and local radio for promoting the awards and ensuring they had a huge number of quality nominations for the awards which were inaugurated in 1995
The 2015 award winners are Patricia Lillis, Salthill, for her contribution to music in Galway; Siobhan Carroll, Oranmore ACT for Meningitis; Craughwell Poker committee for their contribution to CF; Anna Conboy, Mervue Special Olympics swimming; joint winners Justin McDermott and David Collins for their work with Jigsaw Galway; Pat Divilly Barna Ambassador for Console, Belclare/Sylane Community Council contribution to local community; Sister Margaret McFadden community work in Bohermore; Peter Connolly, Claddagh for his work in preserving heritage of the Galway Hooker,; Mick Finnerty Headford, contribution to Ability West and other causes; Team 65 Roses contribution CF Galway Hospital project; and Development Advocates for Tuam Stadium.
The Galway People of the Year Awards ceremony is now recognised as one of the highlights of the Galway social calendar and there is already a big demand for tickets for the event where there will be a pre recorded video presentation of the winners contribution to their various causes, after which they will be interviewed live on stage. The night will be about celebrating recognising and honouring all the award winners and their achievements. Family friends, groups clubs and supporters of the winners will have their own tables.
