Athenry hit Carnmore for nine

Athenry’s Cian Burke produced an outstanding display of scoring when he hit five goals and two points in his side’s stunning 9-16 to 1-11 victory over a hapless Carnmore in group D of the senior hurling championship last weekend.

Burke hit four of those goals in an explosive 11 minute blitz that left Carnmore shocked and stunned.

Galway football midfielder Tom Flynn and Jack Carr also found the net for the former county champions.

They led by 4-10 to 1-5 at half-time, and things did not get any better for Carnmore after the half-time interval and they eventually bombed to a 29 point defeat.

Elsewhere Turloughmore defeated Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry by 2-12 to 2-10. The Turlough goals came from Conor Shaughnessy and Ronan Badger. Jamie Holland was also on target with some fine frees.

Portumna were three point winners over Ardrahan on a score-line of 1-17 to 1-14. Niall Hayes was the Portumna goal-scorer and Andy Smith was also prominent.

At Kenny Park the Craughwell v Beagh game was abandoned at halftime due to a massive downpour that left the playing surface dangerous and referee Gerry O' Connor had little option but to call a halt to proceedings.
