Galway hurlers prepare for rematch with Kilkenny

Following their 1-20 to 1-12 win over Limerick last Sunday in the league quarter-finals, Anthony Cunningham's charges will face Kilkenny at the same venue in a semi-final double-header on Easter Sunday (April 20 ).

In what promises to be a great days hurling, Galway will face the Cats at 2pm, while Clare will take on Tipperary at 4pm in the second semi-final.

When Galway and Kilkenny met in the league in early March this year in Nowlan Park, the home side, without some of their marquee players, had three points to spare at the final whistle, having raced into an early lead.

Galway hurling followers, however, will feel their side has been finding the right balance as the year is progressing.

It was a disappointing Limerick outfit that showed up last Sunday on their home patch, and Galway led by 1-8 to 0-8 at half time and went on to win easily enough by a margin of eight points.

Galway's goal came courtesy of a Conor Cooney penalty early in the first half and, once they shot a flurry of points at the start of the second half, they never looked likely to be caught.

No doubt Kilkenny will provide a much stiffer challenge in three weeks’ time, but it is a game to be anticipated and one that the Galway players will be well up for.
