Museum to screen film of Galway in the 1950s

The Glamour of Galway, a tourist promotional film from 1957, will be screened in the Galway City Museum, this Saturday at 12 noon.

The half-hour film, courtesy of the Irish Film Institute and Fáilte Ireland, focuses on tourist attractions in the city. It also depicts two old men sitting and talking by the O’Conaire statue in the Square. The narration comments: “In Ireland, leisurely conversation is an everyday art. This wisdom of contentment is a characteristic of the Irish. Their closeness to the realities of the spiritual world colours the everyday atmosphere of the streets.”
