It’s a Murray Christmas as Claregalway man takes national light middleweight title

Martin Murray, who fights out of the Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Club, ended the year on a high when he became the latest IKF Senior All Ireland K-1 rules Light Middleweight champion by TKO in round three when his Waterford opponent Joe Harte was unable to continue.

Murray won in emphatic style as he took Harte apart with some excellent technichal striking skills involving punches, knees, and kicks to force a stoppage midway through the contest.

Murray's coach Pete Foley said Murray had been in control from the first bell.

"He kept his composure and didn't get careless. His knee strikes were impressive, but his boxing, followed up by stinging low kicks, did the real damage and Harte's lead leg gave way and the referee sensibly called it off in the third round."

The Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Club wish all their members, sponsors and fight fans a very happy Christmas and will re-open on Monday 7 January at 8pm.
