Mannion welcomes Reserved Defence Forces remaining in Clifden

A Fine Gael councillor has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter, that the Reserve Defence Forces will stay in Clifden.

The decision was made following a Value for Money Review of the Reserve Defence Force and Reorganisation of the Reserve Defence Force.

Galway county councillor Eileen Mannion said the report recommended the closure of several RDF locations but that fortunately Clifden has been retained. The consolidation in a smaller number of locations has facilitated the retention of a countrywide presence.

“It is important that the services and facilities we have in the area are retained and I welcome the recommendation of the review of the Reserve Defence Force to retain their post in Clifden.”
