Have your say at Galway heat of Europe Soapbox competition

Oscar Wilde’s dictum that ‘Youth is wasted on the young’ is the topic for the 2012 Europe Direct Soapbox Competition and Galwegians of all ages are being sought to take part.

In addition to offering people the opportunity to have their say, each entrant will also be in with the chance of winning an iPad and a trip to Brussels for two. There will be runner up prizes of €200 and €100 also.

The Western Region heat will take place on Thursday November 1 at 8pm in The Westside Library and is open to speakers all ages from Galway, Mayo, Roscommon, and Clare. Entrants will be given three minutes each on the soapbox to speak about the chosen topic.

Fine Gael Jim Higgins, MEP will chair the proceedings and a panel of judges will be present. The judges decision will be final on the night.

The Western Region representative will then go forward to the national final on November 20 in Farmleigh House in Dublin where s/he will compete for the national title and a prize of €1,000.
