Drama and digital technology at Coole

Electric Bridget will stage Waiting For Elvis, written by Eileen Gibbons and performed by Eileen Gibbons and Helen Gregg of Electric Bridget, at Coole Park today (Thursday ) at 8pm as part of the Coole Winter Programme.

This drama proved extremely popular at the Galway Arts Festival earlier this year. People are advised to arrive early to avoid disappointment.

In Waiting For Elvis Lisa Marie lives her life happily sitting on a park bench waiting for Elvis. Elizabeth is curious to penetrate the bubble that is Lisa Marie’s life. As she does so, nothing will ever be the same again. Waiting for Elvis is a story of blind faith, of obsession and of trust lost and found; but mostly, of enduring friendship.

Tomorrow (Friday ) between 7pm and 8pm Coole will celebrate Science and Technology Week with an audio visual display of the BEO Projects from primary schools in Peterswell, Lawrencestown, Kiltormer, and Clarinbridge. This is organised in partnership with Galway County Council and the Digital Enterprise Research Institute, NUIG.

‘BEO: Our School a Living Heritage’ is an exciting educational initiative designed to encourage schools to create important historical and heritage digital archives that greatly benefits their local communities. Pupils used the latest digital technology to record audio podcasts with older people, undertook film documentaries on local heritage and produced online thematic slideshows. The results are available on DVD. It creates an important source of digital archives particularly of interviews with people in times gone by.

These events are part of the biannual series of cultural events at Coole Park. All events are free. The aim of the programme is to integrate arts, culture, heritage, and education with a series of events for adults, young people and families. Other winter 2008 events to come include drama, family history, music, poetry, and a puppet show. Events for all ages will take place between now and Christmas.
