Fayre play to ye — St Nicholas’ says ‘Thank you’

More than €14,000 was raised at the recent Christmas Fayre for St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, which will go towards the upkeep of the historic building.

St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church is County Galway’s oldest church, having been built in 1320. It is the main Church of Ireland church in Galway but is also a focal point for Galwegians, regardless of their religion.

The clergy and parishioners of St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church have thanked all the people who came to support the Christmas Fayre, held last Saturday, as well as to those who sponsored the raffle, and donated items to the sale.

Gratitude was also expressed to the choirs who sang at the Fayre: Cois Cladaigh, Galway Choral Association, Galway Baytones, and the St Nicholas’ Parish Choir.

“Is ar scath a chéile a mhaireann na daoine, agus tá muid faoi chomaoin mhór ag bunadh Chathair na Gaillimhe as ucht a bhflaithiúlachta,” said St Nicholas’ Archdeacon Gary Hastings. “This isn’t our church, it’s Galway’s church and it is wonderful that the people of Galway are so supportive of it.”
