Volunteers spring into action with Bulbathon

Conservation Volunteers Galway will be kick starting their events this season beginning with 'Bulbathon' which is to take place in Doughishka park on Saturday October 15.

All are welcome to take part in this bulb planting fest during which more than 3,000 bulbs will be planted. The 'Bulbathon' will be a family event so feel free to bring children.

Volunteers will have the pleasure of knowing that their daffodils, snowdrops, bluebells and tulips will come up in their thousands next spring. They will complement and encourage natural ecosystems and habitats as well as bring colour to the Doughishka parks and playground which are frequented by many.

There will be plenty of people there on the day to give advice and information so that this flower mission will be conducted correctly. Volunteers are asked to to meet at 11am in the car park beside the playground. Planting should be finished by 3pm but volunteers should feel free to leave at any time. There will be a break for lunch so bringing a picnic is advised.

Conservation Volunteers is a group of adults of all ages who are committed to involving people in conserving natural habitats and promoting awareness of our local parks and woodlands. The Bulbathon will mark this season's first of continuing bimonthly events. Outings include a variety of activities and tasks such as clearing invasive species, reinstating pathways, fence building, beach clean-ups, tree planting, tree care and more.
