Ocean image is the stamp of success for Warner

To celebrate Ireland’s success in developing sustainable energy sources, An Post has printed 50,000 stamps focusing on this technology — and they have chosen Galway photographer Neil Warner to shoot the image.

The stamps and the picture illustrate Ireland’s progress in the areas of hydro electricity, solar power, wind generation and ocean energy.

The image taken by Mr Warner was shot off the west coast and shows an Ocean Energy test rig in the Atlantic Ocean.

This is the second time that An Post has chosen to use one of Mr Warner’s images.

Previously, they used a prizewinning image of a mail sorting drum to celebrate their 25th anniversary and to show the progress within the postal system.

In recent times, Mr Warner who was the Galway Advertiser’s first photographer when it opened in 1970, has concentrated on the area of science and technology and has recently completed 26 mini documentaries for clients as diverse as IRCSET, the Irish Research Council for Science Engineering and Technology, NDA, the National Disability Authority, and the ESB.

He recently won the top award in the Press and Public Relations category at the Irish National Photographic Awards. The image featured the robotics surgery developments at the Galway Clinic and it can be seen in our business section in this newspaper.

Images from the Irish National Photographic Awards organized by the Irish Professional Photographers Association are still on display at the Eyre Square Centre and will be there for the next 10 days
