Druid prepares for third US visit of 2011

Druid Theatre Co will make its third and final visit of 2011 to the USA when it presents its staging of Sean O’Casey’s The Silver Tassie in New York.

Druid will stage The Silver Tassie in the Lincoln Centre Festival from Sunday July 24 to Sunday 31.

Thirty-five actors and crew will travel as part of this epic production, including three secondary school pupils who will form part of the chorus for the play; Miriam Ward (Ardscoil Mhuire, Ballinasloe ), Lara Connaughton (Salerno, Salthill ), and John Gaughan (Gort Community School ).

For Lara and Miriam this will be their US debut while John previously performed at the Lincoln Centre Festival in 2006 with DruidSynge.

Since 2007 Druid has presented five shows in New York, with the support of Culture Ireland. This year the company will have spent a total of 22 weeks touring coast-to-coast in the US to 10 cities with 132 performances of Penelope by Enda Walsh, The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh, and O’Casey’s The Silver Tassie.

Druid is back on stage in Galway from November 11 to 19 with John B Keane’s Big Maggie starring Aisling O’Sullivan and Keith Duffy.
