Mercedes-Benz main dealer principle Niall Cunningham of Cunningham Higgins, Galway, gives the thumbs up to the latest two Mercedes-Benz models to arrive in Ireland – the new C-Class coupé and the new open-top SLK Roadster.
The new coupé is the third C-Class version to hit our shores in recent times. Power comes from five new direct-injection engines – two diesel and three petrol units. A C180 petrol version sells at €36,000 ex works, while the entry C220 CDI diesel checks in at €39,990 with the lowest tax band available at €104 per annum.
The second newcomer – the new SLK - is available in a range of new, more efficient four and six-cylinder engines. Petrol units begin with the SLK 200 CGI Blue Efficiency unit which comes on the market at €49,700 ex works with road tax of €302.
Powered by a 1.8-litre, 184bhp four-cylinder engine, it delivers a top speed of 236km/h and a 0-100km/h time of seven seconds, while having low fuel consumption of just six-litres per 100 kms.
