Extra commuter services for Galway

Extra train services between Galway and Athenry will come into service next month to serve the county Galway commuter.

Iarnród Éireann, in announcing new schedules this week, will provide an additional service from Galway to Athenry at 8.40am and 4.30m; and conversely from Athenry to Galway at 9am and 5pm.

Other additions include a new service between Galway and Ennis, a change in scheduling times to improve connections between Galway and Limerick and Galway and Dublin.

The new Galway - Ennis service will depart Galway at 6.30pm, and leave Ennis at 8.15pm, while the 7.05am train from Galway to Dublin’s Heuston has been deferred to 7.35am. This is to allow connections in Athenry from Gort (7.14am ), Ardrahan (7.24am ) and Craughwell (7.33am ).

The 1.05pm service from Galway to Heuston will now additionally serve Attymon at 1.20pm.

Iarnród Éireann has made the changes following feedback from customers who were able to view draft schedules and propose changes.

A spokesperson for Iarnród Éireann said: “We are delighted with the response from Galway customers to this new feedback process for timetable changes. While obviously resources don’t allow for all suggestions to be adopted, we have been able to deliver real improvements as a direct result of the feedback, and will use this model for all future schedule reviews.”

The new schedules for all Heuston and some regional routes will take effect from Sunday May 8. Iarnród Éireann is advising customers on all routes to view the new schedules as many services will have departure time changes, or changes which may affect journeys.
