Rural dwellers may face septic tank charges

Rural dwellers face septic tank charges on top of water charges if proposals by the new Government are passed into law, warns Independent County Councillor Seán Canney.

“This proposal is anti-rural and is a double tax on rural dwellers. Dwellings in the cities and towns have their effluent piped into the public sewer and there is no inspection required.

“Rural people pay development levies at planning permission stage and there should not be further levies on rural people in order to satisfy a European Court ruling.

“The rural dwellers should not be expected to pay again whilst the exchequer pays for urban dwellers”, says Cllr Canney
