Junior Chamber Galway members receive international awards

Junior Chamber International Galway hosted its annual Christmas ball and awards ceremony in the Harbour Hotel recently where the voluntary activities and efforts of members were recognised and the end of a successful year for 2010 branch president Victoria Whelan was celebrated.

As part of the awards ceremony, three longstanding JCI Galway members received the title of JCI Senator. Evelyn Cormican, George Conboy and Mary Giblin received the highest honour in the JCI organisation and were honoured for outstanding contribution to the organisation and continued dedication to the community.

Evelyn Cormican of Blueprint Coaching and Training was honoured as a JCI Senator for her role as local president in 2008 and her contribution to the local organisation where she led the branch to win national awards including the 'Best Community Development Project' and 'Best Fundraising Project'.

Using her professional skills she motivated and boosted the public profile of JCI Galway. Evelyn graduated as a trainer through the JCI University in Finland in 2008 and represented the branch on the JCI National Board and at European Conferences including Estonia and Finland where she provided training to her fellow JCI international members.

Mary Giblin, a senior applications developer at Ingersoll-Rand, was honoured for her long time involvement with JCI Galway through the many events and projects she managed and co-ordinated. Mary played a key role in launching the first JCI Galway Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards and continues to be involved as a judge. Mary served in a number of roles on the JCI local board, including Membership officer and Training Officer where she promoted and encouraged members to participate. Mary represented JCI Galway at European and World Conferences including Cannes, Copenhagen and Vienna.

George Conboy of Conboy Electrical was honoured as a JCI Senator for his ongoing active voluntary involvement in Junior Chamber International Galway. He served as JCI Galway president in 2007 and since first joining in 2005 has contributed hugely to the team work and co-ordination of all the JCI annual projects eg. JCI Galway Tourist Guide, Easter Egg Project, Young Entrepreneur Awards and Outstanding Young Persons Awards. George has taken responsibility for the organisation’s on-line presence as webmaster and can always be depended upon for technical support and expertise. A community person through and through George continues to promote JCI and to encourage new members to get involved.

JCI Galway members come from a wide range of backgrounds but all have a common aim to contribute to the community through voluntary projects extending to sectors of business, charity and personal development.
