Managing Christmas stress

For many people Christmas is one of the most stressful times of the year as the expense of buying gifts, the pressure of last minute shopping and the heightened expectations of family togetherness combine to undermine the best intentions.

Traditionally one of the busiest times of the year for charity helplines, such as the Samaritans, this year looks set to be no different with rising unemployment and economic uncertainty fuelling the nation’s anxiety levels.

Managing and dealing with Christmas stress is the subject of a series of free one hour workshops at the Radisson Blu Hotel on Monday. An early morning workshop will be held at 7.30am with additional events at 10.30am, 1pm, 3.30pm and 5.30pm.

Presented by experienced Emotional Freedom Technique practitioners Michelle Hughes and Norah Sweetman, the workshop will teach participants how to relieve stress and anxiety by using the EFT tapping technique.

“Christmas is an incredibly stressful time for so many people and this one hour workshop will give them a tool that they can use, no matter what the situation to manage and alleviate their stress or anxiety,” says Kinvara based Michelle Hughes who has more than 10 years’ experience as a complementary health practitioner.

Often described as emotional acupuncture, EFT tapping uses the fingers to gently stimulate the acupuncture (meridian energy ) points on the face and upper body, releasing blockages and disruptions and restoring the body’s vital energy system.

“EFT Tapping is a powerful tool to improve your health and wellbeing. By gently tapping on the body’s acupuncture points and vocalising the issue, people find ongoing relief from stress, trauma, and anxiety,” she says. “This technique gives people a tool to work with themselves. It is simple to learn, easy to use and all can learn: the fit, the disabled, those with special needs, young and old.”
