Ryan Tubridy to sign JFK book in Dubray

The visit of US president John F Kennedy to Ireland in June 1963, just five months before his assassination, and its impact on the nation, is explored in a new book by broadcaster Ryan Tubridy.

Ryan Tubridy will be in Dubray Books, Shop Street, on Wednesday November 3 at 12.30pm to sign copies of JFK In Ireland, a fully illustrated book, complete with never-seen-before photographs and stories.

While there have been numerous Irish-American presidents, John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the first, and to date, only Catholic Irish-American to be elected to the office.

In this publication, Mr Tubridy captures the affection Kennedy felt for Ireland and his Irish heritage. He also portrays how those sentiments were reciprocated by a nation enchanted by the young president.

There was his much-vaunted visit for lunch with distant family members in Dunganstown; the garden party that descended into chaos; formal speeches to the Dáil; and the casual encounters as he stopped to shake hands with the public wherever he went, much to the dismay of his beleaguered secret service officers.
