Cope’s meals on wheels wins

Galway’s meals on wheels has been recognised for its quality at this year’s National Q Mark Awards.

Cope Galway Community Catering, previously Meals on Wheels, has won this year’s award for hygiene and food safety in the category of public service.

Cope provides nutritious meals and social contact to older people living independently in Galway. It prepares 180 meals daily which are delivered by a team of more than 100 trained volunteers.

Commenting on the award, CEO Jacquie Horan said: “Cope Galway Community Catering is the first dedicated community meals service in Ireland to achieve the Q Mark for Hygiene and Food Safety. Winning the Q Mark Award gives our customers complete confidence in our meals, because quality matters at every age.”

Irene Collins, MD of the Excellence Ireland Quality Association, said: “High standards of operational hygiene are a must have when catering for the elderly, and winning this award is testament to the hard work and commitment that the team of volunteers have.”
