Memorial event for Pat Bracken

Pat Bracken, the popular stonemason, puppeteer, sculptor, painter, actor, who died in July, will be remembered at a special event in Bar 8, The Docks, this Sunday from 6pm.

Bracken had been an integral part of the Galway arts scene since the early 1980s with his work with Macnas.

“I don’t think I’d be a puppeteer today if it wasn’t for Pat Bracken,” actor, writer, director and puppeteer Diarmuid De Faoite said. “He inspired me and he inspired so many people in Galway and all over the country.

“He was a true artist in every sense of the word and he was a multi-talented man. I had the pleasure of using so many of Pat’s puppets in my shows and they were so well made and the characters were so clear that it was amazing.”

James Harrold of the Galway City Arts Office also paid tribute to Mr Bracken: “He was at the heart and soul of artistic life in Galway. Pat touched so many lives and everyone felt close to him. He epitomised everything that is good about the artist. It’s only now that he’s gone that we realise how much we’ve lost.”
