Protect the trees on Salmon Weir Bridge, says Ó Brolcháin

While Cllr Michael J Crowe may be ‘sick of trees’, one man who certainly isn’t is Green Cllr Niall Ó Brolcháin, who is concerned about the future of trees near the Salmon Weir Bridge.

This week Cllr Ó Brolcháin welcomed the Heritage Funding allocation for work to be carried out on the Salmon Weir Bridge but called for nearby trees to be properly protected during the works. The works will remove overgrown vegetation, conduct remedial works on the stonework and masonry, sandblasting, and removing graffiti.

“The Salmon Weir Bridge is in urgent need of a facelift and it clearly needs some serious maintenance work,” said Cllr Ó Brolcháin. “I would, however, urge those working on the project to be careful with the trees around the bridge as many of them have very high amenity values.”

Cllr Ó Brolcháin said trees are also “an important part of our urban heritage” which “need to be maintained in a careful and sensible fashion”.
