Vintage rally in aid of Ability West

The Shrule and District Vintage Club will be holding their second annual rally in Castlehacket Estate, Caherlistrane, Belclare, in Tuam this Sunday, June 13.

The 2010 Vintage Rally aims to raise funds to enable Ability West to provide a purpose-built respite centre at Cedar Court, Tuam. This year’s event promises to be a great day out for all the family with attractions such as vintage car and tractor displays, commercial display, lots of children’s entertainment, threshing, cooking, churning as well as craft displays. There is also a wonderful dog show which will be taking place on the Croquet Lawn located on the estate.

Musicians who are generously giving their time for free to entertain the crowds include Matt Keane, Dolores Keane, Mouse McHugh, Stone Lakes, Emma O’Sullivan, The Ralphs, Vickers Vimy, Sarah Keating, The Coonics, Padraig Stevens, Seamus Ruttledge, Tuam All-Star Gymnasts, and Earwig! Drummers.

A very successful rally was held last year with the proceeds going towards the purchase of a school bus for St Oliver’s School. Musicians such as Dolores Keane, Frankie Gavin, and Leo Moran entertained the crowds and gave so generously of their time at the 2009 event. The members of the Vintage Club worked alongside Ability West service users to ensure the success of the day.

Ability West provides services and supports to over 460 children and adults with an intellectual disability throughout Galway city and county. Ability West is also patron to four special schools throughout the county. In the Tuam area, Ability West provides services in 11 locations, in addition to St Oliver’s Special School, and in total caters for 80 children and adults with intellectual disability.

Admission for the event this Sunday is €10 for adults and free for children.
