The people of Galway were treated to a gourmet of training delights recently in the Menlo Park Hotel — all part of raising awareness and money for vulnerable children in Zambia. In all €2,500 was raised with every cent going to the children under the
dedicated care of the Presentation sisters.
The originator of the Trio of Seminars is part time GMIT lecturer Seán Connaughton who visited Africa last year where he worked with disadvantaged, vulnerable and isolated communities.
On returning to his native city he developed the idea of training through fun for voluntary contributions to help raise awareness on behalf of those who need it the most.
He explained that delivering the seminars isn't easy but he does it to encourage people to see that positive change is possible. Mr Connaughton went on to say that he sets himself a daily challenge with a monthly goal which all came about after
being clinically diagnosed with obesity.
Instead of letting it control him, he controlled his obesity within 90 days and in so doing, he implemented a series of positive changes in his life which he shares in the seminars through humour and subtle techniques.
Such was the success of the seminars; Being Self Confident, Interviewing Skills and Strengthening Career Opportunities: Mr Connaughton has organised a new series Trio of Seminars which is guaranteed to whet the appetite of potential participants.
It's all for a good cause and as one recent participant explained 'being inspired especially in modelling how far out of his shell an introvert can get, with a bit of determination has triggered me to embrace change in my life.'
