Tibetan Buddhist teacher to give public talk at NUIG

The Tibetan Buddhist teacher Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche will give a free public lecture on being a spiritual person in contemporary society, in the Cairnes Theatre, NUI Galway, on Tuesday.

Dzigar Kongtrul comes from a pure lineage of the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Born in India to Tibetan refugee parents, he was recognised as a reincarnated lama. His father was an eminent meditation master called Neten Chokling Rinpoche.

He moved to the United States in 1989, where he founded Mangala Shri Bhuti, an organisation comprising centres for meditation retreat in Vermont and Colorado. Dzigar Kongtrul continues to follow what he calls his “life-long assignment”: to offer the genuine wisdom of the Buddhist teachings to those who have an interest.

His new book, Light Comes Through, provides the title for Tuesday’s public lecture. Kongtrul is also an abstract painter and his art works can be seen on www.kongtruljigme.com
