Charlestown confident pitch will be playable

Former Charlestown manager from their Connacht success in 2001 Stephen Healy is the current PRO of the club and yesterday he confirmed that all is in readiness for the Connacht club final this Sunday.

“We have the best winter pitch in Mayo and if the sod gets one dry day, even seven or eight hours, between now and Sunday we’ll be able to host the game.”

Match referee Marty Duffy, who also refereed the All-Ireland senior final this year was 70 per cent happy with the pitch last Saturday, but there were a few wet spots and that is why the game was pulled.

“We have worked on the pitch all this week and we feel that the game will go ahead as fixed next Sunday.”

“We even have a few Welcome to Charlestown banners, done up in the Corofin colours to welcome the opposition team and supporters.

“Next Sunday is the biggest home game we have ever had in the club’s history and we have everything in readiness for the day. We are really looking forward to the occasion and a home win would make it even better from our perspective.”
