A young expectant father who didn’t learn his lesson after escaping being put off the road for driving without insurance last year was banned for two years on his second conviction this week.
He also received a three-month prison sentence for the offence, but this is to run concurrently with a sentence he is currently serving.
Before Judge James Faughnan at Tuam District Court was David McDonagh, 59 Parkmore, Tuam, charged with driving without insurance at Parkmore on February 23 last.
McDonagh had been fined €500 last year for the same offence, but a driving ban had not been imposed.
Danny McGrath solr (defending ) pleaded that his client was 22, was currently serving a prison sentence on an unrelated matter, worked as a roofer and was soon to become a father.
He is due to be released from prison in August, and he intended to go back to his roofing work.
Judge Faughnan said that a second no-insurance conviction normally carried a four-year driving ban, but he would leave it at a two-year ban so McDonagh could see some light at the end of the tunnel. A three-month prison sentence was also imposed.
